Should I transport open or enclosed?2017-12-30T07:45:09+00:00

Open transport is the most common way of transport. However, we recommend our “white glove” enclosed transport for high end, specialty or classic cars, cars with a special paint job, cars that are low to the ground, or cars that need a carrier with higher than normal insurance coverage.

Do I need my own auto insurance for the shipment?2017-12-20T01:43:47+00:00

No, personal insurance is not required during transport. Once your vehicle is in our possession, it will be fully insured through our company.

How long does it take to pick up my vehicle?2017-12-30T07:41:43+00:00

90% of our customer’s vehicles are picked up in 7 days or fewer.  Once we have confirmed your pickup date, you will receive an email to confirm the pickup time.  The driver will also have all of your contact information and will typically contact you prior to the pickup.

Do I need to be present when you pick up my vehicle?2017-12-30T06:55:42+00:00
You don’t need to be there, but we strongly recommend that someone of your choosing is present to hand over the keys and sign off on the Bill of Lading (inspection report) with the driver upon pickup.  The driver will typically do a walk around your vehicle and document any visible scratches, dents, chips, etc., to eliminate any confusion about the condition of the car on its delivery.
Just as you would want to participate in this process when you rent a car, for example, to protect yourself from a damage claim, we recommend that you should protect yourself the same way when you ship your car.  Sometimes our customers take their mobile phone’s camera and make a video of the vehicle as the driver arrives, walking all the way around and creating their own video documentation of the vehicle’s condition.
Our drivers take this many steps further and will use photos and videos to document the condition of your high-value car before loading, to create a testimonial of the condition that everyone has access to.
Why am I receiving a range of quotes ?2017-12-30T07:45:54+00:00

Our quote is based on current market rates to move your car on your route and most importantly a rate that should get your vehicle picked up on time.  If you are shopping around, you will always receive a range of prices to move your vehicle. It’s helpful to understand a bit about why this happens: A broker works with two customers – you and the carrier. While you obviously want the lowest price possible, a carrier with a space on his truck is looking to make the most he can to fill that space, so they will always look for the vehicles offering the most money.  If the price offered/listed for your vehicle is lower than all of the other vehicles in your area, other carriers may simply ignore your vehicle so they can make more elsewhere.  Conversely, if you really need your vehicle moved quickly or around specific dates, you will need to pay more. Our quote is set at a price that we are confident will move your vehicle in a reasonable time frame. If you are flexible with your pickup dates we can very often save you money and get you a good deal, so let us know.

For most of our customers who are shipping a vehicle for the first or second time, the best way to look at all of the quotes that you get is to think of selling your home.  When a real estate broker recommends that you “LIST” your house at a certain price, this doesn’t guarantee that your eventual buyer will offer you exactly that full listing price.  Most of us know that in real estate, you will get an offer, then counter offer, then settle on a final price.  No matter what your other quotes say, they are NOT the final price.  The quotes you have received are just like real estate brokers trying to get the listing for the sale of your house.

Unfortunately, you will hear lots of other shipping brokers try and imply things like “we have a driver in your area”, which are ploys to get you to sign up with them.  Can a real estate broker hold an open house for you before they even have a contract to sell your house?  Of course not.  Be very wary of other shipping companies (brokers) that imply that they own a truck and that it’s in your area.  Brokers don’t own trucks and its carriers that have drivers in said area.

Can I ship my vehicle if it’s not running?2017-12-30T07:45:59+00:00

Most, if not all of our transport vehicles will be equipped to ship your vehicle if it’s not running. Usually, we will charge a fee for your “INOP” (inoperable vehicle), as the driver will have to use a winch to load it onto the truck, and then reload the other vehicles back on.  At the delivery, they have to go through the same process again. Please notify our company if your vehicle does not run so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Do I have to take my car to a terminal or will you come to my house?2017-11-06T03:17:45+00:00

No.  We provide a door to door customer experience in almost all cases.  As long as our large trucks can safely get into your neighborhood we will come right to your door.  If you live in a gated community, a very tight cul-de-sac, or somewhere that’s just not accessible, our driver will work with you to find a nearby parking lot at a shopping center, office park, or school to meet you.

How far in advance should I book my transport?2017-12-20T01:52:32+00:00

Normally, its recommended that you should give us plenty of time (i.e. two weeks), or at the very least 7 to 10 days prior to your first available shipping date.  This gives us time to find the right driver, at the right place, at the right time, and at the right price.  We also offer expedited shipments for customers that need their vehicle picked up in less than three days so be sure to let us know if you would like to take advantage of this service.

How long does car transport take?2017-12-30T07:46:38+00:00
Coast to Coast – 7-10 days
Mid-West to Either Coast – 5-7 days
North to South (or vice versa) – 3-5 days
*Please be aware that the above estimated transport times can be affected by unforeseen circumstances such as inclement weather, construction delays, etc.
May I schedule a time for my vehicle to be picked up or delivered?2017-12-30T07:46:55+00:00

If you contact us with sufficient notice, we will do our best to meet your particular needs. Typically, we will be able to offer you a reasonable window for pickup/delivery times.

Do you have a tracking system?2017-11-30T02:49:29+00:00

Your reference number will allow us to track your vehicle through the various phases of the transport process. You can call or email us, or the driver, and we will report back to you promptly.

Do you use terminals or tow yards?2017-11-06T03:18:49+00:00

No, we believe door-to-door service is the best method for transporting automobiles. With door-to-door transport, the carrier will get as close to your doorstep as legally and safely possible. With terminal-to-terminal transports, we feel most of the damage to vehicles occurs while they are switched from transport truck to transport truck or left at a terminal or tow yard. Also, with so many people handling the transport of your vehicle, it is extraordinarily difficult to successfully file a damage claim against the offending carrier. Those companies that offer terminal-to-terminal transports will often hold your vehicle until a truck is ready to transport it. We say, keep your vehicle until we are ready to haul it!

What forms of payment do you accept?2017-11-30T02:49:38+00:00

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. We typically only accept funds for our services. However, if you wish to pay the entire transport fee via credit card, then an additional fee of 5% will be assessed. Essentially, we are processing payment for a third party, and those credit card processing fees can be expensive!

How do I prepare my vehicle for transport?2017-11-30T02:50:03+00:00

If possible, iTransportNY recommends washing your vehicle prior to transport. A clean vehicle makes it easier for the driver to accurately fill out the vehicle condition report. Also, to keep the vehicle near the manufacturer’s specified weight, we suggest transporting it with no more than ¼ tank of gas.

Can I put my personal belongings in the vehicle?2017-12-30T07:48:20+00:00

iTransportNY does not recommend shipping personal belongings inside your vehicle. However, many carriers will haul items that are “light and out of sight and up to 100 pounds.” They do this as a courtesy since hauling anything aside from your vehicle falls outside of their transportation authority. Please note that auto transport companies are not insured for household goods, and have the sole right to refuse to transport these items. Under no circumstances can the car contain firearms, illegal substances, or hazardous materials.
